Vivo NEX review,Full Specifications and Features
For quite some time now it seemed all android devices that were being released were incorporating the notch or cut out feature on their screen/display. The display notch or cut out has become something of a trend and it was made popular by Apple’s iPhone X. Just when we were still increasingly getting used to this particular innovation, at the 2018 Mobile World Congress Vivo surprised us with what then seemed like a phone concept from the future.
The Apex concept phone that Vivo introduced at the 2018 Mobile World Congress event, able to impress most people, featured an actual bezel-less display. Vivo had figured out a way to be able to hide or relocate the earpiece, sensors and of course, the selfie camera. That was only possible with a kind of innovation that we had not been treated to before. With the launch of the Vivo NEX just last month, the truly futuristic concept was brought to life. Consequently, here is a comprehensive vivo NEX review.

Vivo NEX features
Incredible and an Amazing design
If you take a look at the Vivo NEX smartphone, one striking feature that you will be able to notice is its near absence of bezel. Trust me; there are not too many devices out there that have an impressive screen-to-body ratio of 91.24% offered by this smartphone model. Basically, the phone’s front is all-screen. The other smartphone model that offers more front screen surface is the OPPO Find X with a screen to body ratio of 93.8%.
Another wow factor of the Vivo NEX is its camera. The camera of the smartphone simply pops out from the smartphone and the mechanism is really something of a wonder. It’s understandable if the camera pop out mechanism makes you examine the camera move out/ in of its enclosure many times. It is a truly cool and a fascinating mechanism.
Even with the beauty of the pop-up camera of the Vivo NEX, there have been two important concerns raised in regards to this new addition or feature. First, the concern is on the impact the mechanism can have on the battery life. It has been established that compared to the Oppo’s Find X, the power needs of the selfie-only camera is negligible. That is particularly if you happen to be not prone to selfies.
Secondly, another issue that is also of a concern is that when you incorporate into a smartphone a moving part then there is some level of associated risk. The concerns are reasonable since we often drop our phones numerous times and that can cause the camera to break. Moreover, the moving part often eventually suffers from wear and tear. The smartphone company has been able to share durability data of Vivo NEX for the purpose of allaying those concerns.
Obviously, you are the one to decide whether the assurance is enough or you are okay with the associated risks. Personally, I have not encountered any problem with the elevating camera and I believe it is really awesome.
In-display fingerprint scanner
This constitutes another great feature offered by the Vivo NEX. The fingerprint sensor constitutes Vivo’s 3rd generation of its technology for sensing. That means the technology is more accurate compared to before. The sensing technology incorporated with the Vivo NEX represents an upgrade from the X21 device of the company. Even with that said, it is important to understand that in terms of functionality, dedicated sensors function much better than the fingerprint scanner.
The benefit of this fingerprint scanner compared to the one incorporated into Huawei Mate RS is that it operates with extra functions. For example, the under-screen sensor/scanner of Vivo can be employed for the purpose of opening banking apps. With Huawei that does not function at all (requires the rear camera use). The tech works just fine but obviously, it does not represent the best implementation of a sensor or a scanner. The phone may not be the best for you if you prefer a phone that every time is able to unlock instantaneously. Definitely, in the company’s defense, the In-display tech can only improve with time as it is way ahead of its time.
The display of the phone influenced a lot of the decisions that were made by the company. The smartphone has a screen size of 6.59-inch which is really massive and the screen is a Full HD+ AMOLED panel. The display size will offer you the best viewing experience possible. Additionally, the display offers the normal benefits of OLED including rich colors, deep blacks and of course, an always-on display. What the display of this phone offers is what you normally expect of such an all-screen phone. The display fits perfectly with the needs of most consumers and there is the power savings feature too.
Because of the phone’s tiny bezel, there is no space left for the front-facing camera. The phone has a camera that pops up and engages when you click the Camera app’s selfie camera. The camera app offers you various preferences for taking pictures. That includes a panorama mode that is surprisingly quick and an AR Stickers and flexible Pro modes.
The solution offered by Vivo NEX is more elegant compared to the similar solution offered by Oppo Find X. The dual camera system of 12-megapixel plus 5-megapixel is great for the purpose of capturing detail and reproducing colors.
Battery Life and Hardware
With a combination of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor with an 8GB RAM, you have one of the most powerful solutions available in the market at the present. Factor in the internal storage of 256GB then you will have enough storage space for your videos, songs, photos and installing plenty of applications. If the storage space offered by Vivo NEX is not enough, then disappointingly the micro SD card slot is not incorporated.
The 4,000mAh battery is high capacity and is able to last well whether you are gaming or browsing the internet. Additionally, there is a Low Power Mode provided for throttling CPU/GPU. Also, there is a Power-Saving Mode that only allows the functioning of contacts, messages, phone, and clock. Not so much you can do with the mode for Super Power-Saving but it ensures that the battery is able to last longer.
